Mom: Michelle not too many posts lately
Michelle: I know I'm sorry I am so behind
Mom: Don't disappoint the fans
Michelle: Yeah all 3...
Mom: You already have 3???
Well since the Alhambra I've done some amazing stuff, but unfortunately I'm going to chat and show you pictures of the Catedral de Granada before I talk all about my excursions around Europe!
The cathedral here is unreal. As we all know, my spanish is sub-par for being a partial citizen here (yes I've tried to convince people I live here), so it's no surprise that when we were in the Capilla Real (the chapel of Catholic Royalty (Reyes Catolicos)) I thought we were in the cathedral and was a bit disappointed by what I saw...
We were not permitted to take pictures but I managed to whip out the trusty journal and write down a few notes:
-Gaudddyyy
-Gold on top of gold
- oh my god are those crypts real??
- Yes the bodies of Isabella de Castilla and Fernando II de Aragon, Juana I de Castilla(their daughter), Felipe I ( Juana's Husband) and Miguel de Paz (their child) are located in the Capilla Real, so eery but kind of cool
- Hmmm this seems a bit small for how big this building is...
And then we entered the ACTUAL Catedral de Granada...
It's not often my breath is taken away, especially after seeing a blur of cathedrals and churches in Italy and Paris when I was younger. But oh my, this place is unreal (I'm sure the churches I saw in Italy and Paris we're awesome too (aka the Vatican amongst others) but I was 10 and naive...)
If attendance and obedience to the catholic church is not a requirement to get married in this catherdral, then hot damn sign me up! I'll worry about my husband later! Unfortunately I don't think weddings are permitted (probably a good thing- now no one can have what I cannot mwahaha...I'm so mean) but if only I knew people who could pull some strings for me...
Don't worry I found a new location for my said wedding - to my imaginary husband claro que sí. You'll see it a few posts from now.
Anywho, the Cathedral took centuries to build because issues with money, architects dying, conflicting ideas, etc. So when it was finally completed, it was a beautiful mix of various visions and ages of architecture.
Yeah I live here...go ahead and be jealous. Or come visit!
PS. Not loving the pictures I took at the Catedral; when I revisit for my art history class, I'll be sure to take better ones and post them
